Is orientation mandatory to volunteer at Thriftwise stores?

No, orientation is not a requirement to volunteer at Thriftwise but is highly recommended.

How can I verify my volunteer hours?

You can contact your Volunteer Manager via email at jjohnson@fbwc.org to verify your volunteer hours. Please log your hours into our system first.

Where should I report when I arrive to check in at Thriftwise?

Please report to any staff member at your designated Thriftwise store. They will guide you through the checking process.

Is there a volunteer handbook or guide I can refer to for more details?

Yes, there is a volunteer handbook on our website under the "How to Get Involved" > "Volunteer Info" tab.

How will I know about or stay updated on different volunteer opportunities?

Subscribe to our email newsletter and follow us on social media to stay updated. Feel free to reach out to our Volunteer Manager for more information at 281-344-5759 or volunteer@fortbendwomenscenter.org.

Is there any way to track my volunteer hours?

You will receive a confirmation email with the number of hours worked after logging them into our system.

Is there a minimum of hours I can volunteer per day?

No, but we encourage our volunteers to plan to volunteer 2–4 hours each time.

Do I need to have any special skills or experience to volunteer in certain roles?

Yes, some volunteer roles require special skills and training. To volunteer directly at Thriftwise, there are no required skills or training needed.

What are the age requirements and restrictions for volunteering?

Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age to volunteer by themselves. A parent must accompany volunteers between 8 and 14 years of age.

How do I select the time and date I want to volunteer?

Please check our volunteer calendar on the website for available slots and sign up accordingly.

How can I set up a group/organization volunteer session?

How do I log my hours?

You can log your volunteer hours on our website under the "How to Get Involved" > "Volunteer Info" tab.

Am I required to log my hours?

You must log your volunteer hours before you leave for the day. Your hours are very important for grant purposes. Please note that student volunteer hours won't be approved if they are not logged into our system.

What is the appropriate attire to volunteer?

FBWC Volunteer T-shirt or your regular T-shirt. Clothing should not have offensive slogans or graphics.

No midriff tops or sleeveless shirts are allowed.

Long Pants: No shorts are allowed.

All clothing should be in good condition and clean with no holes or rips and no excessive fading or ragged bottoms.

Crocs, sandals, or any open-toed/open-back shoes are not allowed.

What are the ThriftWise hours and locations?

Richmond Location: 501 E Highway 90A, Richmond, TX 77406
Monday – Saturday: 10 am – 6 pm; Sunday: 12 pm – 5 pm

Stafford Location: 13945 Murphy Rd, Stafford, TX 77477
Monday – Saturday: 10 am – 6 pm; Sunday: 12 pm – 5 pm

Is it a requirement to complete a volunteer application in order to volunteer?

Yes, it is a requirement to have a volunteer application on file. This allows us to monitor all volunteer activities and volunteer hours.

How can I work directly with survivors?

Volunteer opportunities to work with survivors are limited and need extra training. The first step is to complete a Volunteer Orientation.

You are also required to complete OAG training. Please note that there are only a few sessions for OAG training per year.

When is OAG training?

OAG training is based on the facilitator's availability and tends to be once every quarter.

New dates and the signup to register will be posted on this website closer to the new session.

This training is free with limited spots.

Participants need to complete the full week's training at once (40 hours).
