In 40 years, Fort Bend Women’s Center has brought Healing & Hope to over 50,000 survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Since 1980, we have helped survivors heal from the trauma of their abuse and move forward to independent lives free of violence and fear. This long Journey of Hope has led to an amazing evolution of programs and services to help provide survivors and their children freedom from abuse and a path toward independence.
In 1980, Pat Altman, a Rosenberg Attorney, Timothy Sloane, Assistant District Attorney, and Paulette Greene, a Rosenberg business professional, recognized the need for domestic violence services in the community and initiated the development of Fort Bend Women’s Center. We are now the primary Fort Bend County provider of free, integral support services for survivors. We provide 24-hour emergency shelter and a crisis hotline, as well as long term support services including: counseling, case management, legal advocacy, children’s services, rape crisis services, rental assistance and transportation. These services help save lives every single day.
In 1989, the first PennyWise Resale Store was opened to provide funding for survivor programs. Now, we have grown to four locations in Richmond, Katy, Stafford and Mission Bend providing funding for programs, as well as, household items, furniture and clothing for survivor families in need.
Over the past ten years, Fort Bend Women’s Center has been serving survivors with increasingly complex emotional, psychological and physical needs. Many have experienced abuse throughout their lives and have suffered Traumatic Brain Injury due to head trauma and/or strangulation.
The journey back to freedom, self-sufficiency and independence is a hard one for many of the survivors we serve – Fort Bend Women’s Center is still working hard to give them the very best opportunity to succeed.
We have come so far and all of this could not have been possible without supporters like you!
Please join us for our most unique event yet! On Saturday March 21st, the 4oth Anniversary Celebration, A Journey of Hope, presented by PCCA, is being held at Anson Aviation in Sugar Land, Texas. Together, we can soar to new heights in the fight against violence!
